The Club is closed until further notice

Paraparaumu Bridge Club Inc.

In the light of the deteriorating situation, all play is suspended until further notice.

Following instructions from NZ Bridge which has recommended that all clubs in our region close down from Monday 23 March we have decided to proactively close the club forthwith.

This decision has been taken acknowledging the fact that one member from the Lower Hutt club probably has the virus, and the speed with which the virus can be spread once a base has been established. We are also aware that our club has a high proportion of members in the highest risk category.

The decision will be reviewed on a weekly basis but it seems unlikely that we will be re-opening the club soon.  The Ministry of Health and medical professionals advise that the best way to avoid contracting the disease is to practice social distancing. Obviously this decision is not just to protect our members but also to play our part as responsible citizens in slowing the spread of the virus in our community.

Trevor Smith will contact clubs advising that the tournament scheduled for Sunday 29 March has been cancelled. Our next tournament is on 17 May and, by then, we will have a much better idea of the situation.

This also means that the lessons scheduled to start on 20 April will not take place. Any queries and possible enrolments will become contacts for next year.

We will keep you in touch with all developments as they unfold. We are sorry to have to suspend operations but may well prefer to be overcautious than to look back and wish we had acted sooner.

We wish everyone a safe passage through what will be a difficult time.

Very best wishes

Tony Davies

President

Survey on Thursday Daytime sessions preserves status quo

In the recent survey on Thursday daytime session times the large majority of respondents preferred to retain the existing 10:30 am start time and to have lunch at the Club.  Arising out of the survey a number of members also voiced their concern at the possibility of Thursday and other afternoon sessions being put back to 1:30 pm.  Accordingly start times for all daytime sessions will remain unchanged for 2018.

The full survey results have been posted with the minutes of the August committee meeting in the clubhouse.
